Thanksgiving Fire Safety

Turkey Frying Safety precautions

  • Setup: Set up the fryer on a solid, level surface, at least 10 feet away from your house, deck, or any other combustible material.
  • Turkey preparation:Use water to determine the correct oil level before adding the oil. Place the turkey in the pot and fill it with water until the bird is covered by about 1-2 inches. Remove the turkey, dry the pot, and fill with oil to that same water line.
    • Ensure the turkey is completely thawed and patted dry before frying.
  • During use:Keep children and pets at a safe distance (at least 3 feet). Have a multi-purpose fire extinguisher (ABC) nearby and know how to use it. Never use water to extinguish an oil fire. If a fire occurs, immediately clear the area and call 911. Do not use the fryer if you have consumed alcohol.
    • Never leave the fryer unattended.
Safety tips for turkey fryers: use on a stable surface, keep it 10 feet away from structures, ensure turkey is fully thawed, and use protective gear.
